Abstract

The study is based on 25 with ammonites biostratigraphical correlated profiles and samples taken from the Fleckenmergel-Facies of the Lias and also of the Rhaetian and Dogger (Upper Aalenian) in the Northern Calcareous Alps. 96 species of foraminifers and 54 species of ostracods were described.

The analysis showed, that not only single species of foraminifera and ostracoda can be used for bistratigraphical applications. Also typical faunal associations - determined with multi-variant analysis - can be used as well, especially for the respective time period, to separate the Rhaetian, Sinemurian, Pliensbachian and the Toarcian to Aalenian.

In order to test the significance or the mutual relationships between the genus- and species-criterions, a method based on multi-variant analysis is introduced and applied to the genus Jaculella BRADY, which permits a comparsion of the species characteristics and eliminates varying (or, respectively subjective) weighting.

In paleoecological point of view, the microfauna of the Lias allows following conclusion for the studied areas:

– an infraneritical facies area in mid to deep shallow-water regions (depth around 200 m)

- normal marine conditions

- light conditions ranging from aphythal to aphotic zone

- tropical temperatures.
